“Dear Summer, I know you gonna miss me”- Jay Z
Ok, Ok…the vacation isn’t over quite yet! But if you’re a student that will be starting or returning to university or college in a few weeks, it’s time to go shopping for the items that will set you up for success! After staying in a college dorm and speaking to others who have, I’ve made a list of eight items that every student should consider owning this school year. I’ve added the links to Amazon for each item.

Here we go:
A Scientific Calculator is absolutely necessary for any student. Chances are, you already have a calculator, and as you go through different courses over the next few years, you’ll want to make sure you have a calculator that you can use in all your math and science classes. If you’re studying to be Mathematics, consider getting a Graphing Calculator.
2.Command Large Utility Hook
This is especially suggested for students that will be staying at the dorms. To avoid having to put holes in the walls with nails (and then having to repair it), use 3M’s Command hooks. Each has an adhesive strip at the back, which allows them to be easily attached to concrete, wood, or glass. They are great for hanging towels, keys, chains, or bags on.
Our phones are becoming increasing essential to our life. We use out phone for checking Facebook updates, texting friends, SnapChat story telling, Instagram liking and umm… what’s that other thing a phone can do? Right…calling people. All those things can really drain our phone’s battery. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t like having to hang out around the outlet or deal with my phone dying. A portable charger is the fix to this problem. Whenever you’re in need of some juice, just plug it in and get some immediate power. Just remember to charge the portable charger when it’s low on batter or not in use.
4. The Richest Man in Babylon
I am recommending this book because it is one of the best books I’ve ever read on the topic of personal finance. Of all the skills I’ve picked up, learning how to manage my money was one of the most important. As it says on the cover, this book has sold more than 2 million copies! It’s that good!
6. Apple MacBook Air 13.3-Inch Laptop
I love my MacBook! The screen display and the sound quality of the build in speakers are the best I’ve ever used. The operating system is powerful and allows for multiple programs to run simultaneously which becomes a major factor if you are running Excel spreadsheets, computer coding programs, researching ideas, or editing photos and videos. To add to that, the MacBook doesn’t get too hot from prolonged use, though it wouldn’t be a bad idea to also get a laptop cooling pad if you will be using the computer a hot room for long periods of time.
7. 2017-2018 Academic Year Weekly & Monthly Planner
What test? The project is due today? No class today? Forgetting that something is due is very easy without some system to help keep track. Having an academic year planner and keeping it update is one of the best way to succeed at university/college. While a regular planner will go from January to December, the academic year planner mirrors the academic school year’s calendar.
8. JanSport City Scout Backpack
Finally – To carry all your books, laptop, pens, calculator…, you’ll need a stylish and durable backpack. The JanSport bags are very strong and fashionable. Plus there are multiple color options.
Hopefully some of these suggestions help you make a useful shopping list and set you up for an awesome year of learning, building, and experiences.
